What we do

We are a great team of professionals who are committed to providing a caring, trauma informed learning environment where all pupils can develop academically, socially, emotionally and morally to their full potential. Our pupils will be successful learners, become confident individuals and strive to be responsible citizens.

At The Wenlock School we support boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 18 years of age who have a range of social, emotional and mental health needs. Our pupils may have been diagnosed with Autism, ADHD or demonstrate behaviours associated with such diagnoses. Our aim is very simple: we want to equip every child with the skills, knowledge and confidence that they need to be successful in their future.

Many pupils come to us with very complex needs, mental health needs and associated challenging behaviour. Our staff team look beyond the issues and potential barriers to learning and recognise the potential within. We invest time with each individual to recognise and understand their learning needs, so that we can put the right plan in place for them. We work together with our pupils and their support network to make sure that every unique journey is supported and manageable. We have high expectations for both behaviour and achievement because we know that we can help children make much more progress than they would within a mainstream school environment. With small class sizes, high staff ratios and an inclusive environment where pupils can be themselves, it allows each pupil to thrive and succeed on their own journey.

With this in mind, we recognise that for many of our children the journey of education so far has been far from easy, which is why we think creatively about our approach to learning. We pride ourselves on preparing our pupils for the next stage of their lives – not just academically but socially and emotionally. Our pupils are encouraged to reach high standards in every aspect.
